Synopsis: Determined to make her own path in life, Princess Merida defies a custom that brings chaos to her kingdom. Granted one wish, Merida must rely on her bravery and her archery skills to undo a beastly curse.
Did You Know? The misunderstood dialect that Young MacGuffin (voiced by Kevin McKidd) speaks is called Doric. It is spoken in northeastern Scotland including Kevin McKidd’s hometown of Elgin.
Quotables: KING FERGUS: Pretend I’m Merida, speak to me. (shrill voice) I don’t want to get married! I want to stay single and let my hair flow in the wind as I ride through the glen firing arrows into the sunset!
And now a Word from the Guise:
Most of the opinions I read about this movie weren’t necessarily positive. People liked it, but they said it “wasn’t Pixar’s best”. Personally, I loved it. It’s an endearing and empowering film about the relationship between a mother and daughter. And it’s Disney-Pixar’s most beautiful film. The opening shot almost looks like a live-action shot, and the will-o’-the-wisps are so pretty! It might not be anyone else’s favourite Pixar movie, but it certainly is mine.
