Oscar Nomination Prediction: Best Actress in a Leading Role (Sandra Bullock)
A Word from the Guise: This is a decent film, but it’s not quite your run-of-the-mill Oscar bait. So I don’t expect it to garner as many nominations as other films that will be coming out in the next couple of months. Sandra Bullock, almost certain to gain her third Oscar nomination, was excellent as usual. Billy Bob Thornton is really good at playing a disgusting puke. But my favourite performance in this film came from the relatively unknown Reynaldo Pacheco, who played Eddie, the inexperienced and naïve yet exuberant campaign volunteer, who forges an unlikely friendship with Bullock’s “Calamity” Jane. The film ends on a kind on hopeful, albeit flat, point.
